Birds (Crows)
Crows pecking at your lawn.
Crows dig in lawns to find grubs, bugs, and beetle larvae to eat. These lawn pests include chafer grubs, which are the larvae of the European chafer beetle, and leather jackets, which are the larvae of the crane fly. Crows can peck holes in the lawn to get their beaks into the soil and claim their food. Over time, these holes can build up and cause long-lasting damage to your grass.
Here are some ways you can stop birds from digging up your lawn:
-
Cut off their food source: Use lawn grub treatments to get rid of the pests.
-
Use fake predators: Crows are smart and territorial birds, so you can try placing fake owls, hawks, or cats near the feeding area. Move the owl around every few days to improve the deception.
-
Use a motion control sprinkler: This might disrupt feeding, but it could also drench anyone nearby.
